CITY OF TACLOBAN, Philippines – At least 20 eastern Visayas police officers have tested for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in recent days.
“Everyone is in isolation facilities through local government teams and is largely monitored through regional headquarters,” he said.
One of those who contracted the virus was a 31-year-old policewoman from the northern city of Catarman in northern Samar who attended school in Calamba, Laguna.
According to data provided through the Catarman Information Office, the policewoman arrived in Catarman on 15 August and was promptly confined to their quarantine centre as part of the protocol.
On 22 August she suffered a loss of taste and smell and was transferred to the provincial hospital north of Samar, where she tested positive for the virus.
On Friday, the Ministry of Health (DOH) recorded 127 new cases of COVID-19 in Visayas, bringing the total number of infections in the region to 2,727.
