2 dead crushed by falling container, the third killed in a fall at a separate site

Two other people were killed and several others injured in a twist of the structure’s fate in Tirat Carmel in northern Israel on Sunday morning, police said. Hours later, a third user was killed in another twist of the structure’s fate at another site of the structure in northern Israel.

In the first incident, a shipping container that was disconnected from a crane in a structure on Palmach Street fell to the floor and crushed two Array employees. Both employees were in their thirties.

According to paramedics, a seriously ill employee rescued from inside the collapsed container. Two other injured workers were reported in serious and mild condition.

An investigation was opened and five other people were arrested on suspicion of negligent homicide and violation of other security codes, Israeli police said in a statement.

According to Hebrew-language media reports, the container served as an elevator at the site and was controlled via a crane.

A representative of Israel’s General Directorate of Labor at the Ministry of Economy and Industry was dispatched to the scene, police said.

Rescuers called to the scene took nearly two hours to extract Bilal Jabarin, 56, unconscious and trapped under a pipe.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. It is not immediately known what brought it down and the police have opened an investigation.

Deaths of structural personnel in Israel are frequent, attributed to poorly enforced protection codes.

The fatal incident adds to a string of construction-related deaths since the beginning of the year.

Since the beginning of 2022, another 44 people have died at construction sites in Israel and dozens more have been injured, according to the local organization Safe Work in Israel.

The organization said 50 percent of structural employee deaths were accumulated in the first few months of 2022 compared to the same era in 2021.
