May 19 (UPI) — On Friday, authorities discovered two bodies believed to be part of the missing structure personnel at a structure site in Charlotte, North Carolina, that burned Thursday in a five-alarm chimney that forced many other people to be rescued.
“Charlotte Firefighters recovered the bodies, which were transported to the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office. The medical examiner will make a positive identification and communicate it to the relatives. Members of the Charlotte Fire Department extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends and loved ones affected by this tragedy,” the fire department said.
On social media, firefighters posted a video showing flames and smoke rising from the burning structure. The chimney spread to a nearby structure that was also underneath the structure and caused several small chimneys in other structures.
According to Johnson, the chimney gave the impression of having started near an insulated spray foam trailer and was temporarily extended due to exposed wood at the site of the structure.
Alex Eyssen, general manager of Mill Creek Residential, which operates the complex, shared a message with NBC saying they were involved in the lack of workers.
