BERLIN – Two men were arrested in Romania in connection with the killing in July of a former pastor in Berlin, German police reported on Wednesday.
The Romanian government arrested the two men, the elderly of 20 and 24, a German arrest warrant on 21 August, police said in a statement.
It is transparent where the men were arrested or if they were ever extradited, and the Berlin police responded to the calls for additional information.
Both are wanted for the murder of Reinhold Zuber, who was discovered dead in his downtown apartment on July 4.
Neighbors called police to report that they had not noticed Zuber for several days and when the government opened his apartment, they discovered the 77-year-old man killed inside. An autopsy showed that he probably died on June 30 or July 1.
Police posted a photo of the victim, asking for data to be presented.
The suspects, whose names were not given, were connected to the pastor, but the police did not specify how they were located.
The Berliner Stadtproject, a Protestant project, said in a statement that Zuber had worked for a network project now closed in the city’s Schoeneberg district from 1973 to 1983.
