182,000 Christians in Israel and they are doing quite well, thank you very much

On Christmas Eve 2022, Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics released a report on the country’s Christian population. It turns out that it is not such a bad life. Here are the numbers:

some 182,000 Christians1 in Israel; they constitute approximately 1. 9 percent of the population of the State of Israel. In addition, Israel’s Christian population grew by 2. 0% in 2021.

75. 8% of Israel’s Christians are Arabs, constituting 6. 9% of Israel’s total Arab population.

The majority of Arab Christians live in the North District (70. 2%) and Haifa District (13. 6%).

39. 0% of non-Arab Christians live in the Tel Aviv and Central districts, and 36. 3% in the North and Haifa districts.

The towns with the largest Arab Christian populations are Nazareth (21,100), Haifa (16,700), Jerusalem (12,900) and an Arab city in northern Israel called Shefar’am (10,500).

BIRTH

582 Christian couples were married in Israel at 2020. La average age at the first marriage of Christian brides and grooms is 30. 6 years and that of Christian brides is 26. 8 years.

In 2021, 2,434 young women were born to Christian women, of whom approximately 72% (1,749 young people) were born to Arab Christian women.

In 2021, the overall fertility rate of a Christian woman averaged 1. 77 children per woman, 1. 80 in 2019. The number of children per Arab Christian woman is even lower, at 1. 68 children per woman.

The average length of a Christian-headed family is 3. 06 more persons, similar to the length of Jewish-headed families (3. 05) and smaller than the duration of Muslim-headed families (4. 46).

The average number of young people up to age 17 in Christian families with young people of this age is 1. 86. Among those Christian families, the average number of young people up to age 17 in Arab Christian families is 1. 94, lower than the numbers in Jewish families (2. 42) and Muslim families (2. 62).

The number of other people who married that year was affected by the closures and restrictions imposed in Israel that year due to the Corona crisis.

EDUCATION

In the 2020/21 school year, 26,752 Christian scholars, 1. 4% of the total number of scholars, attended primary and secondary schools.

83. 8% of Christian 12th grade students were eligible for a certificate of registration. The national average is 48. 3%.

52. 9% of Arab Christians continued their studies for a first degree within 8 years of graduation from high school, to only 31. 2% of the total number of high school graduates in the Arab school formula and 48. 2% in Hebrew education.

The proportion of women among Christian fellows exceeds the proportion of women among the total of scholarship holders of higher degrees: 65. 2% and 53. 1%, respectively, of those preparing for a 3rd degree, and 73. 8% and 64. 2%, respectively, of those preparing for a degree moment.

Compared to Muslim scholars, the percentage of Arab-Christian scholars seeking a bachelor’s degree decreases in the following fields of study: education and instructor training, business and control, and paramedical studies. In contrast, the percentage of those who studied social sciences (excluding business and control sciences), law, mathematics, statistics and higher computing.

Of all first-grade scholars, representation among Christian scholars is highest in the following subjects of study: musicology (15. 7%), data control systems (10. 5%), and engineering and food generation (9. 9%).

LIFE MATTERS

The percentage of labor force participation in 2021 among Christians aged 15 and over 66. 3% (69. 2% of men and 64. 1% of women). This figure is 56. 4% among Arab Christians (63. 8% men and 49. 2% women).

Around 16,300 Christians, a rate of 89. 7 compared to another 1,000 people, registered with the Ministry of Welfare and Social Affairs in 2021.

In 2021, about 4,400 Christians, a rate of about 24. 4 in line with another 1,000 people, were placed in social service settings.

In the year of the 2020 trial, the rate of attempts by other people in trials against thieves among the Christian population in Israel was around 208 compared to another 100,000 people. Among the attempts, the rate among non-Arab Christians was particularly higher than the rate among Arabs. Christians (about 289 and 181 along with another 100,000 people, respectively).

The rate of condemned Christians is around 185 consisting of 100,000 people. The rate of convicted non-Arab Christians is particularly higher than that of Arab Christians (about 252 and about 164 consisting of 100,000 people, respectively).

The maximum common crimes among those convicted in line with Israel’s Christian population are: crimes against public order (22. 9 percent), bodily harm (21. 8 percent), crimes against property (16. 1 percent) and crimes contrary to public decency (15. 0 consistent with percent).
