PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Ten million dollars will help young people in our region cope with the emotional scars of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ten local school districts will benefit from the Allegheny Intermediate Unit grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Department of Health. The two-year assignment is known as SEEKS SES.
Nearly a portion of the money will go toward supporting social painting scholars at the University of Pittsburgh, Chatham University, and Duquesne University at top schools to directly help academics and address social and emotional challenges.
Shannon Fagan, assignment coordinator for SEEKS SES, says, “Many young people in those districts have experienced, and we know from the data, the loss of a parent, grandparent or network members. “
The districts that will be part of this allocation are Cornell, Duquesne City, East Allegheny, Highlands, McKeesport Area, Penn Hills, Steel Valley, Sto-Rox, West Mifflin Area and Woodland Hills.
