10 Bacolod officials, who traveled to Japan, positive for COVID-19

BACOLOD CITY: Bacolod representative Greg Gasataya and nine others, plus some councilors, who joined Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez on a trip to Japan last week, also tested positive for COVID-19.

Gasataya said he, along with councilors, barangay captains and their Asenso Bacolod team allies who joined Benitez on the trip, isolated themselves.

City councillors who joined Japan also attended their normal Sangguniang Panlungsod consultation on Wednesday via Zoom.

“He didn’t have a fever, just a sore throat,” he said, adding that he had isolated and recovered.

The total time he was in Japan, he wore a mask, he said.

He found out he had COVID-19 if he hadn’t been tested, Sayson said.

Former District Councilor Caesar said he tested negative, but his mother, Councilor Simple District, tested positive. He had many symptoms, he said.

“It shows that if you’re vaccinated and you also gained boosters, you’re protected,” he added.
