COBB COUNTY, GA – The Georgia Department of Public Health showed Friday that a one-year-old boy from Cobb County died of coronavirus, the youngest Georgian being to die from COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the virus.
According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, the boy was Black and had underlying conditions. He is one of five children younger than 18 who have died from the coronavirus in Georgia.
On Friday, Georgia recorded 78 new deaths, 2,383 new cases and 208 new coronavirus hospitalizations, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health website.
In total, Georgia has recorded 265,372 cases of coronavirus, 5,471 deaths and 24,335 others hospitalized since March.
Counties on or near the Atlanta Metro continue to have the number of positives, with Fulton County still at the forefront.
Counties in or near the Atlanta Metro also continue to have the highest death toll by COVID-19. The only exception is Dougherty County, from Georgia’s first primary outbreak.
On Friday, Georgia administered more than 2.5 million COVID-19 tests.

Worldwide, more than 24.5 million people tested positive for COVID-19 and more than 833,000 people died from it, Johns Hopkins University reported Friday.
In the United States, more than 5.9 million other people were inflamed and more than 181,000 people died from COVID-19 on Friday. The United States has only about 4% of the world’s population, yet they showed more cases and deaths than any other country.
